IPod is the most popular portable media player today. These are very small in size and have high storage capacity. You can store up to 60 GB of your audio, video and images in it. But these are very susceptible to problems and data loss. Some common reasons of data loss in iPod are as follows: -

1. IPod Freezing: - Freezing is the stage where no control of iPod work and it simply hang. The freezing generally occurs due to the playing any corrupted file, repetitive user of controls or mismatched software on your computer and iPod.

If your iPod is generally freezing while playing a song, then simply restart it by pushing power button, but if it is freezing while you are using it by attaching with computer then run Ad-Aware on your computer and remove anything it finds.

2. Capacity error: - sometimes you can not start your iPod or open the files. It displays the capacity error message that sufficient buffer space is not available.
Every system need for some disk space for processing as buffer space. This error generally occurs when you overload you iPod and it doesn’t get proper buffer space. To overcome this problem, you shouldn’t overload your iPod and kept some free space as buffer space.

3. Volume formatting: - sometimes a particular folder or volume of your iPod become inaccessible and you can’t open these files. It happens due to the accidental formatting of the particular volume due to system error, by loading a virus affected file in iPod or improper switch off of your iPod.

To prevent the volume formatting of your iPod you should switch off your iPod and remove battery only after switching it off. Never load any virus infected file to your iPod.

4. Corruption: - data loss in iPod may occur if any of the system or general file is corrupted. In such conditions, iPod can’t open the particular file stored on it.
In such conditions you can repair your iPod operating system by running inbuilt system repair utility.

These are some general iPod problems and their solutions. In case when these solutions are not capable to save your data, data loss may occur. In these circumstances when you lost your important music, audio or image files, you need to apply iPod recovery software.

There are several iPod data recovery applications available in the market or online those are capable for restoring your lost data from your iPods. These software use advanced searching algorithms and search the corrupted or deleted data. You can select the required files from the search result and can restore them in their original format.
