The GPS time server systems are used to provide accurate time information to computer networks. To achieve this it works in a different way. Here is the way by which it works in order to provide the accurate time information.

GPS system is a navigation system and was first operated by the military for the navigational purposes. Generally it is also used by the civilian purposes. It is popularly known as an accurate global positioning system. In each of the GPS satellite there is onboard highly accurate atomic clock which is good for providing the precise time for the computer network time synchronization.

The GPS time servers is a group of 24 orbiting satellites and each of them have a precise atomic clock timing reference, they can cover the whole globe. The accurate time information is provided continuously from each of satellites. In order to get the broadcast timing information at a low cost you have to use the GPS antenna and receiver.

The GPS time which is transmitted through the 24 satellites is also known as Universal Coordinated Time (UTC) and it resembles to the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). The UTC remains same throughout the world and it does not vary with the day, night or with the time zones. The UTC provides accurate atomic time standard which is available from the atomic clocks that are located in national standard laboratories. The International Atomic Time Institute has distinct the consistent seconds of the UTC.

The GPS satellites broadcasts radio signals that is characterized by very low power radio frequency transmission. For the GPS radio transmission there are two different types of frequencies are used and they are L1 for the civilian purpose and L2 for the military purpose. The radio frequency L1 designated for the civilian purpose is transmitted at 1575MHz which can be pass easily through plastics, and glass but can not pass through the metal and brick.

In order to get the frequency transmissions you have to place the GPS antenna at the right location. It would be better to place at the roof top facing the clear sky. If it is not possible to place the antenna at the roof top then you may place at the window with a 180 degree view of the sky. The GPS antenna is a signal amplifier and receives the signal through a cable to the receiver for decoding. The coax cable is used for this purpose.
