Way back in 2005 eBay launched a new feature to their site known as Guides and Reviews. This section of eBay is growing all the time as it becomes more popular, however it seems that 99% of sellers still aren’t taking full advantage of its full capabilities and do not understand how you can integrate it with your own business to boost sales.

eBays Guides and Reviews section allows users to share their opinions or expertise on any topic or category they wish. It is a part of eBay that is made by the users, for the uses, and where anyone can contribute.

No matter what your interests or expertise, you can write a guide or review on it. Whether it be a guide on “Creating A Pod Cast” or a review of a recent CD or DVD, another user will want to read it.
As a seller, writing guides will not only show you have great understanding of that product, and show you to be an expert, but they can also generate a huge amount of additional traffic towards your store.

How is this possible? Well, on every review and guide written, eBay will automatically include the details of the author down the right hand panel of the screen. This will include a link to their About Me page, a link to the items they are currently selling on eBay, and also a link to their eBay store should that user have one.

These reviews and guides are then ranked by helpfulness, based on the number of Yes or No votes submitted by other eBay members. A well ranked guide can generate a great amount of traffic to a sellers listings. By checking the traffic report in your store, you can see where your visitors are coming from. It’s not unknown to find your guides are generating over 10% - 15% of all visitors to your store.

Writing Guide And Reviews
Firstly, do not be put off at the thought of writing your first guide, it can actually be quite a simple process and it is most definitely achievable. The basic rule is stick to what you know. For example, if you specialise in selling guitars then it should be quite easy for you to write a few reviews of various or guitars and other equipment. Regarding guides, you could perhaps write several “How To Guides” such as “How To Restring Your Guitar” or “How To Replace The Neck” etc.

Try to be creative and always keep your target audience in mind, think about what would interest and attract potential customers. If you concentrate on writing about the products you sell you’ll find you can’t go far wrong.

Browse over to eBay and choose to view the “most helpful” guides. These are the guides that have been ranked by other users to be the most useful. See how these guides are written, and try to use the same approach when it comes to writing your own. So open a blank document, get writing and I’ll guarantee that you will see a boost in your traffic in no time at all.
