Gaining shapely, toned muscles can be a daunting task to say the least. Regular fitness workouts are the best course of action. There are specific actions you can do to help shape and tone your muscles. Many people don't know that nutrition plays an important role in the body shaping process. It's a no brainer, without the right foods for shaping muscles you're facing a dificult path to say the least.

So, what kind of foods are the best to eat when trying to promote muscle building? Foods with high protein are the best ones to eat for toning up. Why foods with high protein? The nutrients from these foods will specifically build up and develop the muscles in your body. Eating protein will increase the nutrition and overall health of your bodyʼs muscles.

How do you know which foods contain protein? One way is to look at a food pyramid. Foods that contain protein are meats such as beef, chicken and fish. Also, you can get protein from certain milk products. Milk itself has some protein as does cheese and yogurt. Soy has protein in them also.

When looking for foods with a lot of protein there is one factor you should keep in mind. It is called the high biological value. What is that? It measures the how much your body will use the protein for muscle building.

Now you know what foods contain protein. Are there some foods that are better for muscle building than others? Yes, there are! One such food is eggs. Eggs are low in calories, low in carbohydrates and have a high biological value. Eggs are also a good place to get vitamins B, A, D, and E. They even have calcium!

Fish is another source of protein that rates high on the muscle building list. Why? Fish is almost all protein! It is very low in fat too! Are there certain fish with more protein than other fish? Yes, there are. Salmon, trout and sardines all contain more protein than other fish. The omega3 fatty acids are a big part of why fish are such a great source for protein. Fish also have other nutrients such as iron and calcium that our bodies need.

Another great choice for foods with high protein is beans. Beans contain a lot of iron and fiber. They are also good for reducing fat in your body. Reducing fat is another way to tone up muscle.

Chicken also rates high on the protein food list. Chicken contains a very high biological value. As mentioned before, beef is also top on the list. However with meat you need to choose a lean cut, not a fatty one. Lean red meat is a complete protein and is a great source for vitamins.

Dairy foods are a great choice for shaping muscles. However, be warned that puddings, ice cream and rice pudding are not good foods for muscle toning. Cheese, cottage cheese and yogurt are especially good choices.

Eating these high protein foods will help to tone your muscles and get them in prime condition for building up through exercise.
