Eat Right to Maintain an Active Lifestyle

For most of recorded history being overweight or plump was a sign of health and prosperity. It was a status symbol because it showed that you didn't need to do manual labor to survive. Today the opposite is true. It is generally the lower income groups that are overweight because they have more of a tendency to buy cheap, packaged food that will pack on the excess weight.

But, the fact is to have an active life style you have to eat well or you won't be able to maintain that activity for very long without it affecting our health. If you try to fuel your car with kerosene it is not going to go very far. The same is true with a body, if you put crap into it you will definitely feel the effects by being slow, sluggish, tired and it will even affect your ability to think clearly.

Most people enjoy being active, that doesn't necessarily mean they like to play sports. It may mean they like to dance, or go to the park with their kids or grandkids, or climb a flight of stairs without feeling they just sprinted a quarter of a mile. If someone tells you they don't want to be active I will suggest they have already become the victim of a poor diet and it has contributed to them feeling lazy and thinking that is just the way they are. In other words they are misidentifying the laziness with who they really are.

People enjoy being active that is just the nature of Homo sapiens. To fuel the body properly so that it can be active one of the first and foremost things to do is to stay away from processed foods. They are generally lacking in nutrition and very often contain virtual poisons for the body, such as high fructose corn syrup or MSG.

Over the last 30-40 years in the subject of diets fat has been a dirty word. Nothing could be farther from the truth. In fact, without proper fat in the diet a body cannot survive. At least 30% of your diet should be from fat, and yes, even animal fats can, and should be a part of that percentage. Naturally, there are some fats you want to stay away from like the fats used to fry food, for example. Sadly for me, potato chips do fall into that category (they are my weakness but I am able to avoid eating them most of the time by just not keeping them in the house.)

Protein is also a vital part of any diet because if you engage in any physical activity your muscles are breaking down and your body needs protein to build them back up. If you are being active, engaging in a sport or doing physical work, and you aren't building your body back up afterward with complete proteins you will very soon pay the price by feeling weak or sluggish and your body will start to lose strength instead of gaining it.

Fruits and vegetables are a must in every diet. These will supply your body with complex carbohydrates that give you energy. Sadly for some, donuts are not a carbohydrate of choice for energy and if a person eats too much of the "junk" carbs they will feel the effects by being sluggish, etc., again leading to eventual inactivity.

No matter your lifestyle a good diet is important to maintaining it so it is very important to eat right and keep your body fit. That will lead to a much happier you!
